GH Resistance

Meaning

GH Resistance, or Growth Hormone Resistance, is a state of clinical unresponsiveness of peripheral tissues to the biological actions of circulating Growth Hormone (GH), despite the presence of normal or elevated GH levels. This resistance typically results in a profound deficiency of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1), which is the primary mediator of GH’s anabolic and growth-promoting effects. The condition impairs linear growth in children and contributes to various metabolic disturbances in adults.
