GH Insensitivity

Meaning

GH Insensitivity, or Growth Hormone Insensitivity, is a clinical state characterized by a significantly reduced or complete absence of the expected biological response to circulating Growth Hormone, despite normal or even elevated hormone levels in the blood. This physiological failure is most frequently caused by genetic defects in the Growth Hormone Receptor or subsequent post-receptor signaling components, preventing the effective downstream production of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1. The classic clinical presentation includes severe short stature and a range of associated metabolic disturbances.
