GH-IGF Axis

Meaning

The GH-IGF Axis, or Growth Hormone-Insulin-like Growth Factor-I Axis, is a principal neuroendocrine system regulating somatic growth, cellular anabolism, and metabolism throughout the entire lifespan. It comprises the hypothalamic regulation of Growth Hormone (GH) release from the pituitary gland, the subsequent GH-induced production of Insulin-like Growth Factor-I (IGF-I), and the systemic actions of IGF-I. This tightly controlled axis is central to tissue maintenance, repair, and overall metabolic health in adults.
