GH-IGF-1 Axis

Meaning

The GH-IGF-1 axis, or Growth Hormone-Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 axis, is a critical neuroendocrine signaling pathway that governs growth, cellular proliferation, and metabolic regulation throughout life. Growth Hormone (GH) is secreted by the pituitary gland, which then stimulates the liver and other tissues to produce IGF-1, the primary mediator of GH’s anabolic and growth-promoting effects. This axis is fundamental for maintaining body composition, bone density, and metabolic homeostasis.
