GH Deficiency

Meaning

GH Deficiency, or Growth Hormone Deficiency, is an endocrine disorder characterized by the inadequate production or secretion of Growth Hormone (GH), a critical anabolic and metabolic peptide hormone, by the pituitary gland. In adults, GHD leads to a specific, recognized clinical syndrome involving detrimental alterations in body composition, reduced bone mineral density, dyslipidemia, and impaired psychological well-being. The definitive diagnosis typically requires specialized provocative testing to confirm the dysfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis.
