GGT

Meaning

GGT is the acronym for Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase, an enzyme predominantly localized on the cell membranes of hepatocytes, renal tubules, and pancreatic cells. In clinical diagnostics, serum GGT is a highly sensitive, though non-specific, marker used to assess hepatobiliary function and is often an indicator of liver stress, including damage from oxidative stress or excessive alcohol intake. Elevated levels warrant further investigation into liver and metabolic health.
