GGC Repeats

Meaning

GGC repeats refer to a polymorphic sequence of guanine-guanine-cytosine trinucleotides located within the first exon of the human Androgen Receptor, or AR, gene. This sequence encodes a polyglycine tract in the resulting androgen receptor protein, which is one of two polymorphic repeat regions alongside the more commonly studied CAG repeats. The length of this GGC repeat sequence is genetically variable among individuals and subtly influences the overall function and expression of the androgen receptor.
