Genomics

Meaning

Genomics is the interdisciplinary field of biology focused on the structure, function, evolution, mapping, and editing of genomes, which is the complete set of DNA within a single cell or organism. This scientific discipline extends far beyond the study of individual genes to analyze the entire genetic landscape, including gene-to-gene interactions and gene-environment interactions. In clinical practice, genomics is becoming indispensable for understanding the polygenic nature of complex endocrine disorders and for developing highly personalized preventative and therapeutic strategies. It offers a powerful lens through which to view an individual’s unique biological blueprint.
