Generic Drugs

Meaning

Generic drugs are pharmaceutical formulations that are bioequivalent to their brand-name counterparts, containing the identical active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in the same dosage form, strength, and route of administration. These medications become available after the patent protection of the original innovator drug expires, allowing other manufacturers to produce and market them. They are rigorously evaluated by regulatory bodies to ensure they meet the same stringent standards for quality, safety, and efficacy as the original brand-name product.
