Gene Mutations

Meaning

Gene mutations are permanent alterations in the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) sequence that makes up a gene, ranging from a single base pair change to a large segment of chromosome deletion or duplication. These genetic changes can be inherited or acquired, and they often lead to a non-functional or abnormally functioning protein product. In hormonal health, mutations can critically impact hormone synthesis, receptor function, or metabolic clearance pathways.
