Gene Expression

Meaning

Gene expression is the intricate process by which the information encoded within a gene’s DNA sequence is converted into a functional gene product, such as a protein or a non-coding RNA molecule. This process is the molecular mechanism underlying all cellular differentiation and function, dictating which proteins are made, in what quantity, and when. Hormones serve as master regulators of gene expression, translating external and internal signals into changes in cellular behavior.
