Gastrointestinal Integrity

Meaning

Gastrointestinal Integrity refers to the structural and functional soundness of the mucosal barrier lining the digestive tract, ensuring appropriate nutrient absorption while preventing the systemic translocation of undigested food particles, toxins, and microbial products. This barrier is a critical component of the body’s immune and endocrine defense systems. A compromise in this integrity, often termed “leaky gut,” is a significant precursor to systemic inflammation and hormonal dysregulation.
