Functional Thyroid Resistance

Meaning

Functional Thyroid Resistance describes a physiological state where target cells exhibit a diminished response to thyroid hormones, despite circulating levels of T4 and T3 appearing within or even above conventional reference ranges. This cellular unresponsiveness means that the body’s tissues are not adequately utilizing available thyroid hormone, leading to a symptomatic presentation consistent with hypothyroidism at the cellular level.
