Functional Independence Measure

Meaning

The Functional Independence Measure (FIM) is a standardized, widely-used assessment tool that quantifies an individual’s level of disability and the amount of assistance required to perform essential activities of daily living (ADLs). This metric evaluates motor and cognitive functions on a seven-point scale, providing a consistent measure of rehabilitation outcomes and overall functional status. While not a direct hormonal measure, changes in FIM scores can reflect the systemic impact of hormonal imbalances on muscle strength, energy levels, and neurocognitive capacity.
