Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders

Meaning

Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders, or FGIDs, represent a group of chronic conditions characterized by symptoms originating from the gastrointestinal tract, where no structural or biochemical abnormalities are readily identifiable through conventional diagnostic testing. These disorders involve disturbances in the gut-brain axis, leading to altered motility, visceral hypersensitivity, or changes in gut microbiota.
