FSHB

Meaning

FSHB stands for the Follicle-Stimulating Hormone Beta subunit, which is the unique component of the heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone FSH responsible for conferring biological specificity and receptor affinity. In clinical practice, measuring FSHB levels can sometimes provide a more specific assessment of pituitary gonadotroph function than total FSH, especially when evaluating certain pathologies or the effects of GnRH analogs on the axis. It is integral to signaling follicular development in females and spermatogenesis in males.
