FSH Receptor

Meaning

The FSH Receptor, or Follicle-Stimulating Hormone Receptor, is a transmembrane protein primarily expressed on the surface of ovarian granulosa cells in females and testicular Sertoli cells in males. This glycoprotein receptor is a critical component of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, mediating the biological effects of FSH. Binding of FSH to its receptor is essential for follicular development and estrogen production in the ovary and for spermatogenesis in the testis. Genetic variations or functional abnormalities in this receptor can lead to significant reproductive health issues.
