Free Testosterone Reduction

Meaning

A measurable decrease in the concentration of unbound, biologically active testosterone circulating in the bloodstream. Free testosterone, unlike total testosterone, is not bound to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) or albumin, making it immediately available to diffuse into target cells and exert its androgenic effects. A reduction in this fraction can lead to clinical symptoms of androgen deficiency, despite potentially normal total testosterone levels.
