Free Testosterone Elevation

Meaning

Free Testosterone Elevation refers to the clinical strategy aimed at increasing the concentration of unbound, biologically active testosterone circulating in the bloodstream. Testosterone exists predominantly bound to Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) and albumin, but only the free fraction is capable of diffusing into target cells to engage androgen receptors and exert its physiological effects. Therapeutic efforts focus on either increasing total testosterone production or reducing the levels of SHBG to ensure a greater proportion of the hormone is available for tissue action. This elevation is critical for maintaining muscle mass, libido, and cognitive function.
