Free T4 Levels

Meaning

Free T4, or free thyroxine, represents the biologically active, unbound portion of the total thyroxine hormone circulating in the bloodstream. This minute fraction is not attached to transport proteins like thyroxine-binding globulin and is therefore the only portion available to readily diffuse into target tissues to exert its metabolic effects. Measuring Free T4 levels provides a direct and accurate assessment of the functional thyroid status, which is a cornerstone of precise endocrine diagnosis and management.
