Free T3 Conversion Efficiency

Meaning

The measure of how effectively the body converts the prohormone Thyroxine (T4) into its biologically active form, Triiodothyronine (T3), primarily through the action of deiodinase enzymes. High efficiency indicates robust peripheral tissue conversion, which directly correlates with cellular metabolic rate and energy availability. Low efficiency, even with adequate T4, results in symptoms of hypothyroidism at the cellular level. This metric is crucial for assessing true tissue thyroid status.
