FRAX Score

Meaning

The FRAX Score, or Fracture Risk Assessment Tool, is a globally validated clinical algorithm used to calculate an individual’s 10-year absolute probability of sustaining a major osteoporotic fracture, including hip, spine, forearm, or shoulder fractures. This essential tool integrates numerous well-established clinical risk factors, such as age, body mass index, parental fracture history, and smoking status, often combined with bone mineral density (BMD) values. It provides clinicians with a quantitative, evidence-based measure to guide the initiation of pharmacologic therapy for osteoporosis.
