Fragility Fracture

Meaning

A Fragility Fracture is a bone fracture that occurs spontaneously or following minimal trauma, typically from a fall from a standing height or less, indicating underlying skeletal fragility. These fractures are the clinical hallmark of osteoporosis, a metabolic bone disease characterized by low bone mass and microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue. The presence of a fragility fracture is a critical indicator of compromised bone health and significantly increases the risk of future fractures.
