FoxP3 Gene Expression

Meaning

FoxP3 Gene Expression refers to the process by which the Forkhead box P3 gene is transcribed and translated into its corresponding protein, which serves as the master transcription factor for regulatory T (Treg) cells. Treg cells are a crucial subset of immune cells responsible for maintaining immunological self-tolerance, essentially preventing the immune system from attacking the body’s own tissues. The level and stability of this gene’s expression are therefore directly linked to the risk of developing autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, many of which exhibit a significant gender bias influenced by hormonal fluctuations.
