Food-Drug Interactions

Meaning

Food-Drug Interactions are clinical events where the absorption, distribution, metabolism, or excretion (ADME) of a pharmaceutical agent is significantly altered by the simultaneous ingestion of specific nutrients, foods, or dietary supplements. These interactions can either diminish the therapeutic effect of the drug by reducing its bioavailability or increase its systemic concentration to potentially toxic levels. In the context of hormonal health, this is critical, as many endocrine medications have narrow therapeutic indices.
