Follicle Stimulating Hormone Attenuation

Meaning

The clinical phenomenon of a reduced or blunted secretion of Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) from the anterior pituitary gland, typically observed as a consequence of negative feedback from exogenous sex steroids. This attenuation is a key indicator of iatrogenic endocrine axis suppression and is directly responsible for the reduction in spermatogenesis in males and follicular development in females during hormonal therapy. Monitoring FSH levels provides a critical measure of the degree of HPG axis inhibition.
