Follicle Miniaturization

Meaning

Follicle miniaturization is the progressive, pathological reduction in the size and diameter of the hair follicle, which fundamentally alters the hair shaft it produces. This process results in the transformation of thick, pigmented, terminal hairs into fine, short, vellus-like hairs. It is the primary physiological hallmark of androgenetic alopecia, commonly known as pattern baldness in both men and women. The clinical outcome is a noticeable decrease in hair density and scalp coverage over time.
