Fluid Imbalance

Meaning

A state where the total volume of water and electrolytes in the body’s various compartments (intracellular, interstitial, and intravascular) is outside the narrow homeostatic range necessary for optimal cellular function. In endocrinology, this condition is frequently linked to dysregulation of hormones such as vasopressin (ADH) and aldosterone, which govern renal water and sodium reabsorption. Severe imbalance can compromise cardiovascular stability and cellular signaling.
