Fluid Exchange Network

Meaning

The Fluid Exchange Network refers to the complex, integrated system of fluid dynamics within the body, encompassing the movement of water, solutes, and signaling molecules between the vascular, interstitial, and cellular compartments. This network includes the capillary beds, the lymphatic system, and, specifically in the central nervous system, the recently characterized glymphatic system. Efficient function of this network is paramount for maintaining tissue turgor, facilitating nutrient delivery, and clearing metabolic waste products, all of which are critical for optimal hormonal signaling. Dysfunction in this network can lead to edema and impaired cellular communication.
