FIPA

Meaning

FIPA, or Familial Isolated Pituitary Adenoma, is a rare, inherited endocrine disorder characterized by the presence of pituitary tumors in two or more family members without the accompanying features of other multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes, such as MEN1. The pituitary adenomas in FIPA often present at a younger age and tend to be larger and more aggressive, frequently leading to hormone overproduction syndromes like acromegaly or gigantism from excess growth hormone. This diagnosis is crucial for identifying families at high genetic risk for these specific hormonal tumors.
