Finasteride

Meaning

Finasteride is a pharmaceutical agent classified as a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, primarily utilized in clinical practice for the management of androgenetic alopecia and benign prostatic hyperplasia. It functions by selectively blocking the conversion of the potent androgen testosterone into its more active metabolite, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This targeted hormonal modulation is a critical intervention for mitigating the negative effects of elevated DHT levels on susceptible hair follicles and prostate tissue.
