Fibroblast Cells

Meaning

Fibroblast cells are the predominant and most critical cell type found within the connective tissue of the dermis, functioning as the biological factories responsible for synthesizing the entire extracellular matrix. Their primary and vital function is the continuous production of structural proteins, most notably collagen and elastin, along with essential glycosaminoglycans like hyaluronic acid. These cells are indispensable for maintaining the skin’s tensile strength, elasticity, and hydration, and they play a critical, central role in all aspects of wound healing and tissue repair. Their metabolic activity is highly sensitive to external and internal hormonal signals.
