Fibro Fog

Meaning

Fibro Fog is the colloquial and clinically recognized term for the subjective cognitive dysfunction experienced by individuals, predominantly women, diagnosed with fibromyalgia and other chronic pain syndromes. It is characterized by debilitating symptoms such as impaired concentration, difficulty with word retrieval, short-term memory deficits, and a pervasive sense of mental cloudiness or mental fatigue. This condition is not merely a consequence of depression or distraction from pain but reflects a tangible disturbance in central nervous system processing. The cognitive impairment profoundly impacts daily functioning and quality of life, often ranking among the most distressing symptoms.
