Fertility Axis Preservation

Meaning

Fertility axis preservation is the clinical and therapeutic objective of safeguarding the structural and functional integrity of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis in both males and females. This involves maintaining the delicate pulsatile secretion of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus, the subsequent release of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) from the pituitary, and the gonadal production of sex steroids and gametes. Preservation strategies are critical during exogenous hormone administration or other medical interventions that risk HPG axis suppression. The focus is on long-term reproductive and endocrine health.
