Female Hormone Withdrawal

Meaning

Female hormone withdrawal describes the abrupt or gradual cessation of endogenous or exogenous estrogen and/or progesterone signaling, leading to a cascade of physiological and symptomatic responses. Clinically, this phenomenon is most commonly observed during the menopausal transition, following bilateral oophorectomy, or upon the scheduled discontinuation of hormone replacement therapy. The resulting endocrine deficit impacts multiple organ systems and homeostatic functions.
