Female Hair Growth

Meaning

The physiological process of hair follicle cycling in women, which involves the phases of anagen (growth), catagen (transition), and telogen (rest), significantly modulated by the circulating levels of sex steroid hormones, particularly androgens and estrogens. Normal female hair growth is characterized by fine vellus hair in most body areas and terminal hair on the scalp, which is generally less sensitive to androgens than male pattern hair. Disturbances in this process, often linked to hormonal imbalance, can result in conditions like hirsutism or androgenic alopecia.
