Female Estrogen Dominance

Meaning

Female Estrogen Dominance is a common clinical state characterized by a hormonal imbalance where the biological effects of estrogen, either in absolute excess or relative to the counter-regulatory hormone progesterone, are disproportionately high. This disparity can arise from excessive endogenous estrogen production, exposure to environmental xenoestrogens, or, most frequently, insufficient progesterone levels due to anovulation or luteal phase dysfunction. This state is often associated with symptoms like heavy bleeding, fibrocystic breasts, and mood instability.
