Female Androgen Levels

Meaning

Female androgen levels refer to the circulating concentrations of male sex hormones, primarily testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and androstenedione, which are present and functionally essential in the female body. These steroid hormones are synthesized in the ovaries and adrenal glands and play a critical role in maintaining libido, bone density, muscle mass, and overall energy balance. Imbalances, such as elevated levels leading to hyperandrogenism, can manifest in clinical conditions like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
