Female Androgen Deficiency Syndrome

Meaning

Female Androgen Deficiency Syndrome (FADS) is a clinical term describing a constellation of non-specific symptoms, such as persistent unexplained fatigue, decreased libido, reduced sense of well-being, and diminished bone density, occurring in women with measurably low circulating androgen levels. This syndrome is not universally accepted as a distinct diagnostic entity by all medical societies but represents a recognized clinical challenge, often emerging after oophorectomy or during the menopausal transition. Clinical evaluation requires careful exclusion of other endocrine or psychological causes before considering androgen replacement therapy.
