Female Androgen Deficiency

Meaning

Female Androgen Deficiency (FAD) is a clinical state characterized by lower-than-normal circulating levels of androgens, such as testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), in women, often resulting in a constellation of non-specific symptoms. Clinical presentation may include persistent, unexplained fatigue, reduced libido, decreased sense of well-being, and potentially diminished bone mineral density. This diagnosis requires careful biochemical assessment in conjunction with a thorough clinical evaluation to rule out other etiologies. Treatment, when indicated, involves cautious androgen replacement to restore physiological balance and alleviate symptomatic burden.
