Feedback Loop Sensitivity

Meaning

Feedback Loop Sensitivity describes the responsiveness of the central regulatory glands—the hypothalamus and pituitary—to the circulating concentrations of peripheral hormones, which dictates the rate of tropic hormone release. This sensitivity is a crucial determinant of hormonal homeostasis, ensuring that hormone production remains within a narrow, physiological range. A change in this sensitivity, either heightened or blunted, can be a primary driver of hormonal dysregulation, even when peripheral gland function is intact.
