Fed State

Meaning

The Fed State, also known as the postprandial state, is the physiological condition immediately following the ingestion and subsequent absorption of nutrients from a meal, typically lasting several hours. During this phase, the body is primarily in an anabolic mode, prioritizing the storage of energy substrates and the synthesis of macromolecules. The key endocrine signal is a significant rise in insulin secretion, which facilitates the efficient uptake of glucose, amino acids, and fatty acids into peripheral tissues like muscle, liver, and adipose tissue. This metabolic period is essential for replenishing glycogen and triglyceride stores and supporting cellular growth and repair.
