FDG-PET

Meaning

FDG-PET is a functional medical imaging technique that combines the use of a radiolabeled glucose analog, Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), with Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanning. This diagnostic tool generates a detailed, three-dimensional map of metabolic activity throughout the body by quantifying the uptake of FDG, which is a reliable proxy for cellular glucose utilization. In endocrinology, it is a powerful method for localizing hormonally active tumors, assessing metabolic disease, and evaluating brain glucose consumption.
