Fasting Induced Ketosis

Meaning

A natural, physiological metabolic state achieved when prolonged abstinence from caloric intake depletes liver glycogen stores, prompting the liver to produce ketone bodies from the oxidation of fatty acids. This adaptive response ensures that the brain and other vital organs have an alternative, highly efficient fuel source, which is a key mechanism of metabolic resilience and survival. This state is distinct from the pathological condition of ketoacidosis.
