Facial Adiposity

Meaning

Facial adiposity is the accumulation of excess adipose tissue, or fat, specifically within the subcutaneous compartments of the face and neck, often leading to a change in facial contour and appearance. This condition can be a manifestation of systemic weight gain, but it is also a recognized clinical feature of certain hormonal imbalances, particularly chronic hypercortisolism, known as Cushingoid features. The distribution of fat in the face is hormonally sensitive and can be an indicator of underlying endocrine dysfunction or metabolic syndrome. Managing this condition requires addressing the root hormonal or metabolic cause alongside lifestyle interventions.
