Eye-Brain Axis

Meaning

The Eye-Brain Axis describes the direct neuroanatomical and functional connection between the retina and central nervous system structures, most notably the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) in the hypothalamus. This pathway is paramount for synchronizing the body’s master clock, thereby regulating the pulsatile release of numerous hormones. Disruptions here fundamentally compromise circadian endocrine signaling.
