Extrinsic Rewards Health Outcomes

Meaning

The measurable effects on an individual’s physiological and behavioral health resulting from incentives or consequences that originate outside of the behavior itself, such as financial bonuses, public recognition, or tangible prizes for achieving a health goal. While these external motivators can be effective for initiating behavior, their long-term impact on sustainable health outcomes and intrinsic hormonal balance is complex and often transient. Clinically, extrinsic rewards are best utilized as a strategic bridge to developing more resilient intrinsic motivation.
