Exercise-Induced Hemodilution

Meaning

Exercise-Induced Hemodilution is a transient physiological state characterized by an acute increase in blood plasma volume relative to the cellular components, resulting in a temporary reduction in the concentration of circulating blood constituents, including various hormones. This phenomenon is commonly observed during or immediately following prolonged, moderate-to-high intensity physical activity. Clinically, this effect is critical because it can lead to the underestimation of true hormone levels if blood samples are collected too soon after exercise cessation.
