Executive Function Degradation

Meaning

Executive Function Degradation is the measurable decline in the higher-level cognitive processes controlled by the prefrontal cortex, including working memory, inhibitory control, and cognitive flexibility. Clinically, this manifests as reduced planning ability, increased impulsivity, and difficulty sustaining attention on complex tasks. This degradation is often a consequence of chronic stress, sleep deprivation, or neuro-endocrine imbalance.
