Executive Command Function

Meaning

Executive Command Function, often clinically referred to as Executive Function, is a high-level cognitive umbrella term describing the complex set of mental skills that allow an individual to plan, organize, initiate, and execute goal-directed behaviors, while also inhibiting impulsive or irrelevant actions. These functions are primarily governed by the prefrontal cortex and are absolutely essential for self-regulation, complex problem-solving, and adaptive social behavior. Their integrity is highly sensitive to hormonal fluctuations and overall brain health.
